Prenatal Paternity Tests Identify the Father - Before Birth

Prenatal Paternity Testing Confirms Paternity Early

Establishing paternity protects a child’s rights, protects the ability to collect financial benefits, and provides an accurate medical history for the child. Since prenatal paternity tests allow for early identification of the father, the birth certificate can reflect both parents’ names at birth.

Paternity confirmation through prenatal paternity tests may also create the potential to develop a relationship with the father. Early DNA paternity testing may have other significant advantages as well, including planning for the child’s future. Prenatal DNA paternity testing can be conducted as early as 14 weeks into the pregnancy.

Obtaining a DNA paternity test while pregnant allows the comparison of a child’s DNA with that of an alleged father early in the pregnancy. Once a baby is conceived, the child’s DNA is established and will not change. Therefore, it is possible to match the child’s DNA before birth.

Prenatal Paternity Tests Are Accurate

With prenatal paternity testing, you will get the same conclusive results as with a traditional legal paternity test. Our selected labs test up to 29 markers to determine the highest possible probability of paternity. We guarantee 100% accuracy of our prenatal paternity tests in writing.

Your DNA test is sent to the only lab in the country that utilizes two different DNA analyzers to verify your results – virtually eliminating any chance of error. The lab is the nation’s premier DNA paternity testing center. Results from prenatal DNA tests are normally available within 5 to 9 business days after we receive the sample.

Prenatal paternity tests may be used for legal purposes. A physician will collect amniotic fluid from the womb and send it to the laboratory using a verifiable chain-of-custody process. DNA is then collected from the alleged father through our legal paternity test procedures to determine a match. The presumed father’s DNA will be collected and documented at one of 6,000 convenient local clinics. We use a simple, painless cheek swab process to collect a DNA sample. However, if the mother merely wants to know the father’s identity for peace of mind and not for legal purposes, the father’s DNA may be collected with a home DNA test kit.

Conducting a DNA Paternity Test While Pregnant

A physician obtains the child’s DNA sample for a paternity test while pregnant. An OB-GYN takes a sample from the mother during pregnancy through amniocentesis. The procedure is most often used from the 14th week of pregnancy through the 24th week. Loose fetal cells in the amniotic fluid are extracted to test the child’s DNA. Physicians also use amniocentesis to detect prenatal chromosomal abnormalities. As with any medical procedure, the mother should discuss the process with her doctor to understand any potential risks.

The mother’s DNA is also tested during prenatal paternity testing. The prenatal sample contains both the mother’s DNA as well as the child’s. Therefore, it is essential to perform a DNA swab collection to identify the mother’s DNA to be able to distinguish it from that of the child’s DNA.
